Crysis Around the Web Part 1

Written on: April 9, 2007 by xKarma

Gamespot recently ran a Crysis Designer Diary column in which design team member Harald Seeley discussed many of the cool technologies that will power Crysis and how these state-of-the-art technolgoies will impact other games based on the new CryEngine 2 game engine.  Herald Seeley, Development Director and Licensing Manager for Crytek had some interesting stuff to say.  He discussed the real time created lighting and shadow effects of the CryEngine 2 and just how revolutionary it is.  He also discussed rendering backdrops for long view distances, the character animation system, the cinematic effects such as motion blur, environmental effects and even hinted at hardware issues.

Another noteworthy, semi-recent article from the folks at Gamespot was on GDC (Game Developer's Conference) 2007 Crysis impressions.  Crytek showed up at the GDC 2007 show but was more eager to show off their CryEngine 2 technology than Crysis itself: and it's no wonder, the engine is quite spectacular! Bringing a trailer in to wow the crowd, CryEngine 2 was shown in all of its glory.  Not only does this engine look stunning, it also looks quite developer friendly.  Many of us were already familar with the lush jungle scenes produced for Crysis by the engine but the new GDC trailer also showed some spectacular facial and skeletal animation, vehicle destruction, and more.  This new trailer is a must see and will be hosted here at xCrysis shortly.
