Crytek and Cry2
Crytek really exploded on the scene with Far Cry, a first-person shooter that was nothing short of eye-candy.  Not only was Far Cry's engine top-notch, it was also opened up to players to mod the game with.

Crysis is the second game coming out of Crytek Studios and from all the available video previews it is going to look quite simply amazing.  While both Far Cry and Crysis are both set on a beautifully rendered island setting, it should be noted that they are two different games; Crysis is not a sequal to Far Cry.

While watching any of the available video previews of Crysis is the best way to truly grasp what the CryEngine 2 is capable of, what follows is a little more of an indepth look at some of the features:

Volumetric Clouds
An advanced Imposter Rendering Technique delivers volumetric cloud formations that are illuminated in real-time and allow soft fly-throughs. This permits crazy action when you are battling aliens in the sky. The clouds also cast realistic shadows on anything beneath them.

Motion Blur
The camera and any object on the screen, if moved too quickly, features directional high quality motion blur. Features such as this are what Crytek calls "Video Realism".

Real-time Ambient Maps
A first in lighting technology; real-time implementation of indirect lighting that approximates ambient light intensity. This technology produces realistic ambient lighting. Crysis will feature the most realistic lighting without compromising the real-time performance.

Soft Shadows
All objects cast shadows that are pixel accurate and soft according to the sunlight diffusion.
